Synopsis

Mukazi, meaning ‘Woman’ in Lugandan, glimpses at the worlds of 5 groups of women in Uganda through the mediums of photography and film. Episodic in nature, it cuts between interviews with Rose and Agie, two city girls, and short stories from rural locations, looking at the differences in personal experiences and situations with the underlying theme of gender. Steering away from Western traditional methods of issue-based media, it aims to show an honest non-exploitative representation and interweaves positive and negative aspects of life in Uganda. Starting in Northern Uganda in the greatly inhabited refugee camps, it migrates south, ending on a short film filmed by young people at a school and orphanage in Rakai.
